Title:
METHOD FOR PROCESSING TANTALUM OR TANTALUM ALLOY MEMBER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2017088998
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carburizing method for providing mechanical and chemical durability in a tantalum or tantalum alloy member.SOLUTION: A method for processing tantalum or tantalum alloy member comprises: heating the member at a temperature of 1,400°C or more under vacuum; injecting a gaseous carbon source into a furnace at a pressure of 10 mb or less to form a carbon multilayer constituted of a layer C1 consisting of tantalum carbide positioned on the surface layer and layers C2 and C3 having a carbon content lower than the layer C1 in a peripheral portion of the member; stopping the formation of the carbon multilayer by cooling; arranging and holding units capable of capturing carbon, oxygen, and nitrogen around the member in order to protect the member; heating the furnace under vacuum to cause the diffusion of the carbon existing in the layer C1 toward the layers C2 and C3; cooling the member under vacuum before the carbon existing in the carbon multilayer reaches a central portion of the member; and stopping the diffusion. The obtained member has a portion positioned in an intermediate portion between the surface layer and the central part and formed of tantalum and carbon. TaC is not on the surface layer, and carbon is not in the central portion.SELECTED DRAWING: None
