To provide a method for producing a 1-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-1-cyclohexene of high purity at a high yield, which method can easily be industrially practiced.
The method for producing a 1-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-1-cyclohexene represented by formula (3) comprises thermally decomposing a 1, 1-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)cyclohexane and a 1-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-1-(2-hydroxyphenyl)cyclohexane in a weight ratio of 90/10 to 50/50 in the presence of a basic catalyst. In the formula, R1 represents an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, an aryl group, an aryloxy group or a halogen; R2 represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, an aryl group, an aryloxy group or a halogen; and (a) represents 0 or an integer of 1 to 4, provided that R1 may be the same or different if (a) is 2 or greater.
