Abstract:

To produce 1,3-cyclopentanediol with a high trans ratio in high yield by directly hydrogenating 4-hydroxy-2-cyclopentene-1-one, and particularly, to produce 4-hydroxy-2-cyclopentene-1-one with a high trans ratio in a water solvent same as the 4-hydroxy-2-cyclopentene-1-one which is synthesized from a furfuryl alcohol in the water solvent.SOLUTION: A method for producing 1,3-cyclopentanediol includes hydrogenating 4-hydroxy-2-cyclopentene-1-one in the presence of a catalyst with ruthenium supported on a carbon-based carrier at a temperature of 60°C or higher and 150°C or lower.SELECTED DRAWING: None
