To provide a method for efficiently producing a 1,3-diadamantane ester from raw materials except 1,3-diadamantanediol compounds, and to provide a method for efficiently producing a 1,3-diadamantanediol compound by a reaction under the atmospheric pressure.
This method for producing the 1,3-diadamantane ester comprises mixing and reacting a 1,3-dihalogenated adamantane compound with a carboxylic acid compound such as acetic acid, an alkali metal halide such as sodium bromide, and the metal salt of the carboxylic acid compound such as zinc acetate or a transition metal oxide such as zinc oxide. The method for producing the 1,3-diadamantanediol compound comprises reacting the ester bond of the 1,3-diadamantane ester obtained by the method with water or the like in the presence of an acid or a base to hydrolyze and simultaneously introduce a hydroxyl group.
