Abstract:
To provide a method for producing a 9,10-dihydroxyanthracenecarboxylic ester or a derivative thereof.
This method for producing the 9,10-dihydroxyanthracenecarboxylic ester or the derivative thereof by the catalytic oxidation of anthracene, comprises subjecting anthracene in a liquid phase to the actions of oxygen and light in a carboxylic acid medium in the presence of an organometallic salt and an activator for the organometallic salt at about 40°C or higher, separating the precipitate, treating the liquid residue with an esterifying agent, and isolating the ester obtained from the reaction mixture.
