To provide a method for producing D-lactic acid by a continuous fermentation method that stably maintains high productivity over a long time, under simple operating conditions.
This method for producing D-lactic acid by a continuous fermentation method comprises separating a culture liquid into a filtrate and a non-filtrated liquid with a separation membrane, recovering the D-lactic acid of a desired fermentation product from the filtrate, and then holding or returning the non-filtrated liquid in the culture liquid. By using a porous membrane, having high permeability and high cell-stopping rate and hardly occluded as the separation membrane and by subjecting the culture liquid to filtration treatment at a low inter-membrane difference pressure, the fermentation production efficiency of the D-lactic acid can be improved markedly and stably at low cost.
