To provide a method for producing absolute ethanol from a raw material including ethanol and water as the main components under a low operating pressure.
The method for producing absolute ethanol has a process which comprises supplying the raw material including ethanol and water as the main components into the middle part of a secondary distillation tower T2, supplying a hydrocarbon solvent into the upper part of the secondary distillation tower, drawing a vapor occurring in the secondary distillation tower and practically consisting of a hydrocarbon solvent and water and not including ethanol from a tower top, and drawing a liquid mixture occurring in the secondary distillation tower and practically consisting of a hydrocarbon solvent and ethanol and not including water from a tower bottom; and a process which comprises supplying the liquid mixture occurring in the secondary distillation tower to the central part of a third distillation tower T3, supplying the hydrocarbon solvent to the upper part of the third distillation tower, drawing a vapor occurring in the third distillation tower and practically consisting of ethanol and a hydrocarbon solvent not including water from the tower top, and drawing anhydrous ethanol practically not including a hydrocarbon solvent from the tower bottom. The hydrocarbon solvent is propane, propylene, normal butane, isobutane, or a solvent mixture thereof.
