Abstract:
To provide a method for producing an adamantanediol from the corresponding adamantane through easily separating and retrieving the adamnatanediol from a reaction liquid mixture.
The method for producing the adamantanediol comprises carrying out a reaction between the corresponding adamantane and a hypochlorite in a water/organic compound two-phase solvent system in the presence of a ruthenium compound. In this process, the ruthenium compound is subjected to solid/liquid separation after reaction while keeping it in a highly oxidized condition to separate the reaction mixture into the adamantanediol deposited and a ruthenium compound-containing liquid.
