To provide a method for producing an alcohol in which oxygenates can be synthesized in a high selectivity by a catalytic reaction using a synthesis gas as a raw material, and the ratio of the alcohol contained in the produced oxygenates is high, and to provide an apparatus for producing the alcohol usable in the method for production.
There is provided the method for producing a 1-4C alcohol including bringing the raw material gas containing hydrogen and carbon monoxide into contact with a catalyst A, catalyst B, and catalyst C. In the method for producing the alcohol, the catalyst A produces a 1-4C carboxylic acid as a main product from the raw material gas, and the catalyst B produces a 1-4C aldehyde as a main product from the raw material gas. Furthermore, the catalyst C converts the raw material gas, carboxylic acid, and aldehyde into the 1-4C alcohol.
