The method for producing the α-olefin-cyclic olefin copolymer comprises carrying out a copolymerization of the corresponding monomers in the presence of a polymerization catalyst comprising (A) a transition metal compound of the general formula(IV), (V) or (VI) and (D) at least one compound selected from an organometallic compound, organoaluminumoxy compound and ionized ionic compound. In the general formula(IV), (V) or (VI), M1, M2 and M3 are each a group 3-11 transition metal atom; m, p, r, k, k' and k" are each 1-6; A and G are each O, S or the like; D, J, T, L, Q and R are each N, P or the like; E is a substituent -R13, -R14 or =C(R15)R16; R1 to R21 are each H, a halogen atom, hydrocarbon group or the like; when n, q and s are each 1, X1, X2 and X3 are each O, when n, q and s are each ≥2, at least one of X1, X2 and X3 is O or the like.
