To provide a method for efficiently and simply producing alpha-sialon phosphor powder excellent in applicability and having an almost spherical shape from about several μm to ten and several μm.
The method for producing the alpha-sialon phosphor powder comprises a kneading process for kneading a powdery raw material containing elements constituting the alpha-sialon phosphor by wet mill, a granulation process for adjusting particle sizes of powdery raw material aggregates by spray drying the kneaded product prepared by spray dryer in the kneading process and a sintering process for sintering the aggregated particles produced in the granulation process by housing them in a vessel in a powdery state without compression molding to obtain the alpha-sialon phosphor powder.
