Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To micronize scrap or ingot-shaped aluminum by a simple and safe method and to use the same for a reducing agent.SOLUTION: Scrap or block-shaped aluminum is dissolved, is thereafter discharged from a heating furnace and is allowed to cool. The surface of the melted aluminum is covered with the powder of an inorganic metal compound for the purpose of reduction, such as an inorganic metal oxide, a hydroxide, or a carbonate, and the same is solidified while being strongly stirred to obtain a mixture of the inorganic metal oxide powder and the aluminum grains. This mixed powder is subjected to pulverization treatment by ball milling or the like to obtain aluminum powder containing the inorganic metal oxide. When the mixing is performed in such a manner that the amounts of the inorganic metal compound and aluminum are regulated, the raw material powder of thermit reaction can be obtained. The quantitative ratio between the raw material powder and inorganic metal compound is stoichiometrically re-blended, and heating is performed. In this way, the inorganic metal compound is reduced to obtain the objective metal.
