To provide an economical and simple method for producing an amide by a rearrangement of an oxime in comparatively high vessel efficiency while reducing the generation of byproducts which give a large load on the environment.
The production of the amide by the rearrangement of the oxime is carried out in a multiphase solvent in the presence of a hydrophilic phosphine compound and a ruthenium compound. Water and an organic solvent immiscible with the water are used as the multiphase solvent. A water layer is separated from the reaction mixture after the reaction, and a water-soluble ruthenium complex formed out of the hydrophilic phosphine compound- and the ruthenium compound contained in the water layer, is utilized in the reaction in place of the hydrophilic phosphine compound and the ruthenium compound.
