The method for producing a compound of formula(3)( wherein, (n) is an integer of 1-5 ) by reaction between a compound of formula (1) or formula (2)( wherein, X is a halogen atom; and (n) is an integer of 0-3 ) and an alkali metal salt of 3-aminophenol in the presence of an aprotic polar solvent comprises the following (a) to (e) steps: The step (a) comprises distilling off the aprotic polar solvent by distillation from a reaction mixture. The step (b) comprises retrieving the resultant residues into a water-immiscible organic solvent. The step (c) comprises reacting the thus retrieved organic solvent with a mineral acid in the presence of water to retrieve the resultant mineral acid salt into the water. The step (d) comprises retrieving the mineral acid salt of the compound of formula (3) from the resultant mineral acid salt-containing aqueous solution. The step (e) comprises reacting the thus retrieved mineral acid salt with a base in the presence of a water-immiscible organic solvent and water to retrieve the objective compound of formula (3) into the organic solvent.
