To provide a method for stably producing an aromatic polycarbonate narrow in a molecular weight distribution and having quality also excellent in an initial hue.
In the method for producing the aromatic polycarbonate, when the aromatic polycarbonate is produced by a transesterification reaction which uses an aromatic dihydroxy compound and a carbonic diester as a raw material, continuously supplies both these raw materials into a raw material mixing tank, continuously supplies the obtained mixture into a polymerization tank, and uses a transesterification catalyst, (1) for each unit production time of one or more provided with the total production time fractionalized, the set amount of the transesterification catalyst is chosen from within the range of 0.05 to 5 μ moles to 1 mole of the aromatic dihydroxy compound or carbonic diester, and also (2) during time of at least 95% of each unit production time, the actual amount of the transesterification catalyst to be supplied is retained in a value within ±0.1 μmole of each set amount of the transesterification catalyst to 1 mole of the aromatic dihydroxy compound or carbonic diester.
