Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing astaxanthin with increased efficiency by culturing microalgae.SOLUTION: According to the present invention, there is provided a method for producing astaxanthin in which microalgae are cultured to produce astaxanthin in their algal bodies. Here, at least light irradiation during a culturing period of astaxanthin is carried out using a blue light LED having a peak wavelength of 420 to 500 nm and a red light LED having a peak wavelength of 620 to 690 nm. The ratio of the blue light LED having the peak wavelength of 420 to 500 nm and the red light LED having the peak wavelength of 620 to 690 nm is preferably 1:19 to 19:1 in the photon flux density. Their photon flux densities are preferably 20 μmol/m/s or more.SELECTED DRAWING: None
