PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel method of producing asymmetric anthracene derivatives substituted at carbon atoms at positions 9, 10, and 2.SOLUTION: In a method, a halogenated anthracene derivative formed by several steps of reaction from phthaldialdehyde is subjected to Suzuki coupling reaction with a compound represented by Ar-B(OH), to produce an asymmetric anthracene derivative represented by the specified formula at a high yield. (Ris a C1-30 alkyl group, a C5-30 aryl group, or a C5-30 heteroaryl group; and Aris a C5-30 aryl group or a C5-30 heteroaryl group.)
