Abstract:
To provide a method for producing benzyl isonitrile through one step under a mild condition.
A benzyl halide represented by the formula YCH3-n(C6H5)n (wherein Y is a halogen, (n) is an integer of 1-3, the benzyl group may be substituted) is allowed to react with a trialkylsilyl cyanide in the presence of a silver salt of an organic or inorganic acid in a liquid phase to produce corresponding benzyl isonitrile.
