Abstract:

To provide a method for producing a polyhydroxy carboxylic acid ester having a reduced amount of a water-soluble free acid component and suitable as the bioabsorptive material from a hydroxy carboxylic acid such as lactic acid and glycolic acid.

The method for producing a polyhydroxy carboxylic acid ester having an amount of a water-soluble free acid in terms of a monobasic acid of ≤0.0001 mol/g and a weight average molecular weight of 4,000-100,000 comprises polycondesing a hydroxy carboxylic acid such as lactic acid and glycolic acid with the use of a sulfonic acid as the catalyst.
