Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing bioerodible implants for treating an inflammation-mediated eye disease which can deliver a therapeutic drug to maintain a therapeutic drug level at a desired posterior ocular region or site for a long time for treatment of the eye disease.SOLUTION: A biodegradable ocular implant with a long-term release property implanted into an ocular region for treating an eye disease is formed by (a) blending an active agent and a first biodegradable polymer; (b) extruding the blend obtained in the step (a) to form filaments; (c) breaking the filaments obtained in the step (b) into particles of about 30 μm to about 50 μm in size; (d) blending an additional amount of the active agent and a second biodegradable polymer; (e) mixing the particles obtained in the step (c) with the blend obtained in the step (d); (f) extruding the blend obtained in the step (e) to form filaments; and (g) cutting the filaments obtained in the step (f).
