To provide a series of processes for producing a biofuel, which include a technique in which: carbon dioxide serving as a carbon source is converted into a biomass by photosynthesis by photosynthetic microorganisms; and thereafter, the production of a biofuel is carried out.
The method for producing a biofuel includes: a culture step S1 in which photosynthetic microorganisms that accumulate an oil and fat and a carbohydrate in the cells thereof are cultured in a broth; an oil and fat conversion step S2 in which the carbohydrate accumulated in the cells of the photosynthetic microorganisms, which have been cultured in the broth, is converted into the oil and fat; an extraction step S3 in which the oil and fat is extracted from the cells of the photosynthetic microorganisms; and a modification step S4 in which the extracted oil and fat is modified.
