Abstract:
The present invention provides a method for efficiently producing bisphenols at low cost with high conversion rate and high selectivity. The present invention also provides a novel catalyst which is reusable and is suitable for this production of bisphenols. The present invention relates to a method for producing bisphenols, which comprises a step wherein a carbonyl compound and a phenolic compound are brought into contact with a solid acid catalyst, and which is characterized in that the solid acid catalyst is a zirconium-phosphorus composite solid acid catalyst.
