Abstract:
To provide a method for producing a carboxylic acid polyhydric alcohol ester by which a catalyst is readily separated and recovered and a monoester, a diester etc., can selectively be synthesized in high yield with little production of heavy components and to provide an esterification catalyst.
A polyhydric alcohol is esterified with a fatty acid to produce the carboxylic acid polyhydric alcohol ester. In the process, the reaction is carried out in the presence of at least one metal salt hydrate selected from aluminum, iron, zirconium and hafnium as the catalyst.
