Abstract:
To provide a method for producing carboxymethylcellulose sodium salt giving jelly texture and resilience to a material to which the carboxymethylcellulose sodium salt is added.
The method for producing the carboxymethylcellulose sodium salt comprises the following processes for: performing alkali cellulose reaction of cellulose at alkali concentration of 35-50 wt.% relative to water by using a reaction solvent, wherein a mixing ratio between a 1-3C lower alcohol and water is 75-95:25-5; performing etherification reaction with excessive alkali of 0.2-0.5 mol per anhydroglucose unit; and adding an acid after completion of the etherification reaction to neutralize excessive alkali for bringing pH of a reaction mixture to 6.0-6.5.
