A carotenoid-producing bacterium [e.g., Agrobacterium aurantiacus sp. nov N-81106 (FERM P-14023) or its variant] is cultured in a culturing solution where 0.5 ppm or more of oxygen is present, or a culturing solution having an oxidation reduction potential of -200 mV to -70 mV, and carotenoid is recovered from cells of the bacterium or the cultured solution.
