Abstract:

To fundamentally solve the problem of the generation of various defects caused by the chemical composition and porosity of the conventional type back-up material, and to provide a ceramic back-up material for welding having an extremely low porosity, having high moisture proofing and water proofing capacity and also having high quality without using an organic waterproofing agent and glaze in particular.

In the method for producing a ceramic back-up material for gas shielded arc welding, the powdery raw material of ceramic is prepared, the prepared powdery raw material of ceramic is kneaded, and granulated. The surface of the granular raw material is coated with an inorganic caking agent of 0.4 to 5.0 pts.wt. to 100 pts.wt. of the granular raw material. This is molded into a prescribed shape to produce a molding, and this molding is fired so as to produce a ceramic back-up material for gas shielded arc welding having a porosity of ≤15%.
