Abstract:

To provide a new method for synthesizing citalopram having antidepressant activity as a serotonin reintake inhibitor.

This method for synthesizing the objective citalopram of formula I comprises reacting a compound of general formula IV (where, R is a 1-6C alkyl, acyl, 1-6C alkylsulfonyl or arylsulfonyl) with a 3-(N,N-dimethylamino) propylmagnesium halide.
