To obtain a coated paper exhibiting printability especially severely required to the coated paper in recent years, while the coated paper is made at high papermaking speed of ≥1,300 m/min.
The method for producing the coated paper is characterized in that the following continuous steps are incorporated in this order in on-machine: (1) a step for carrying out papermaking by gap type twin wire former; (2) a step for forming wet paper by a dehydration means using a suction (forming) roll and/or blade in a wire part; (3) a step for drying the wet paper; (4) a step for applying an aqueous coating solution mainly containing an adhesive and a pigment to the paper; and (5) a step for carrying out planarizing treatment of the paper by a heated soft calender 70 composed of a combination of a metal roll having at least 2 nips and constituted in a plural stages and an elastic roll, wherein surface roughness of the metal roll (JIS B-0601) is 2.5-4.5 μm and shore D hardness of the elastic roll is ≥90.
