Abstract:
To provide a method for producing ultra-high purity colloidal silica and synthetic silica powder.SOLUTION: The present invention enables ultra-high purity colloidal silica to be obtained by removing undissolved silica in alkali silicates. A method for producing ultra-high purity colloidal silica is provided that involves mixing silica or an industrial alkali silicate with an alkaline aqueous solution so that a molar ratio of SiO2/Na2O is from 1.0 to 2.0, allowing the mixture to undergo reaction with heat and thereafter confirming a complete reaction of the silica, adding an oxidizing agent for filtration and passing the filtrate through a sodium-type cation-exchange resin, and adding a reducing agent and passing the filtrate through a hydrogen-type cation-exchange resin.SELECTED DRAWING: None
