To provide a method for obtaining a compound containing a dichloromethyl group from a compound containing a trichloromethyl group, capable of efficiently eliminating chlorine by cutting one carbon-chlorine bond in the trichloromethyl group at a high selectivity under a gentle condition, and capable of easily separating a catalyst from a product after the reaction to be reused.
The method for obtaining the compound containing the dichloromethyl group includes elimination of chlorine by cutting one carbon-chlorine bond in the trichloromethyl group by wetly contacting the compound containing the trichloromethyl group with a precious metal catalyst under a hydrogen atmosphere. The precious metal catalyst is preferably a catalyst containing carbon particles and at least one kind of precious metal supported by the carbon particles and selected from a group including platinum, palladium and rhodium.
