Abstract:
To provide a method of producing a cutting tool that exhibits excellent wear resistance and lubricating ability even when heavy cutting.
The method of producing the cutting tool provided with a cemented carbide base material and a coating film formed on the base material, includes the steps of: forming a coating film of at least one from among metal nitride, metal carbide, and metal oxide by chemical vapor deposition or physical vapor deposition on the base material (step 1); and performing a mechanical hardening treatment on the surface layer of the coating film (step 2).
