To provide a CV graphite cast iron for an engine improving the low strength and brittleness of grey cast iron used as the material for an engine, increasing the mechanical properties such as tensile strength, yield strength, an elastic modulus and toughness and simultaneously capable of improving the effect of eliminating noise and vibration and reliability on the capacity and durability of an engine, and also to provide a method for producing the same.
Molten metal obtained by adding magnesium of 0.020 to 0.028 wt.% is added to a metallic mixture essentially consisting of iron and furthermore containing carbon, silicon, manganese, phosphorous, chromium, molybdenum, copper and tin and heated at 1,500 to 1,560°C is poured into a mold, and magnesium is successively added in such a manner that the content of magnesium in the molten metal is controlled to the range of 0.01 to 0.017 wt.% to produce the cast iron.
