Abstract:

To provide a novel method for dehydrating polyhydric alcohols to synthesize cyclic ethers or hydroxy ketones by dehydrating polyhydric alcohols in an eco-friendly type process.

The method for producing cyclic ethers or hydroxy ketones is to carry out dehydration reactions of polyhydric alcohols having 3 hydrogen groups. In the method, the cyclic ether and the hydroxy ketone are synthesized by subjecting 0.01-10 mol/l aqueous polyhydric alcohol solution to a dehydration reaction in a reaction system including 200-400C high temperature water and 0.1-30 MPa partial pressure carbon dioxide in an eco-friendly type process without using an inorganic acid and a solid catalyst. By the invention, the technique for producing cyclic ethers or hydroxy ketones is provided by utilizing the dehydration reaction of polyhydric alcohols in low environmental load processes.
