Abstract:

To provide a method for producing a cyclic olefin-based addition polymer excellent in heat resistance, optical transparency, and adhesion and close bonding property to another member, also controlled with its molecular weight for capable of easily forming a film, sheet, etc., by a solution-casting method, and also soluble in a solvent selected from a hydrocarbon or a halogenated hydrocarbon.

This method for producing the cyclic olefin-based addition polymer is characterized by performing an addition polymerization of a monomer containing a specific cyclic olefinic compound in the presence of a multiple component catalyst containing (a) a palladium compound, (b) a compound selected from an ionic boron compound, an ionic aluminum compound and a Lewis acid type boron compound, (c) a specific phosphine compound or its phosphonium salt as essential components, and ethylene.
