To provide a method for producing a cyclic olefin-based addition polymer, with which addition polymerization is readily carried out up to a high polymerization conversion ratio even if an alkyl substituent group-containing bicyclo[2.2.1]hept-2-ene with a coexisting stereoisomer, especially an alkyl substituent group-containing bicyclo[2.2.1]hept-2-ene comprising a large amount of endo isomer is used as a monomer, molecular weight is controlled by a molecular weight modifier, an obtained addition polymer has transparency in a form such as sheet, film, etc., and has flexibility and toughness and to obtain a cyclic olefin-based addition polymer and a film or sheet composed of the cyclic olefin-based addition polymer.
The method for producing the cyclic olefin-based addition copolymer comprises subjecting a monomer composition having 20-80 mol% of an alkyl substituent group-containing bicyclo[2.2.1]hept-2-ene compound and a specific cyclic olefin-based compound in all monomers to addition copolymerization in the presence of a palladium-based catalyst.
