Abstract:
The present invention provides a method for producing a cyclic olefin polymer which is capable of stably producing a cyclic olefin polymer with a desired yield that is commensurate with the polymerization conditions in cases where the cyclic olefin polymer is produced using a transition metal complex catalyst such as a metallocene catalyst. In a method for producing a cyclic olefin polymer according to the present invention, wherein a monomer that contains a norbornene compound containing an epoxide impurity is polymerized in the presence of a transition metal catalyst, a crude norbornene compound containing an epoxide impurity is treated with use of a hybrid adsorbent that is composed of a mixture of active alumina and zeolite so as to reduce the amount of the epoxide impurity in the monomer, thereby setting the ratio (mass ppm/mass ppm) of the content of the epoxide impurity and the content of the catalyst relative to the total mass of a polymerization solution that is subjected to the polymerization to 6 or less.
