Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a cyclic olefinic copolymer in the presence of a catalyst simultaneously satisfying characteristics which comprise not producing a gel-like polymer component or a solvent-insoluble polymer component, having excellent polymerization activity, having high cyclic olefin copolymerization efficiency and giving the copolymer having a narrow mol.wt. distribution.
SOLUTION: This method for producing the cyclic olefinic copolymer comprises copolymerizing an α-olefin with a cyclic olefin in the presence of a catalyst comprising an aluminoxane and a metallocene compound represented by the general formula [1]: H2C(R'mCp)(R"nCp)MX2 [M is Zr or Hf atom; Cp is a group having a cyclopentadienyl skeleton; R', R" are each a 1 to 10C hydrocarbon group; X is a halogen atom, or the like; (m) and (n) are different from each other, and (m)+(n) is an integer of 3 to 6].
