To provide an industrially suitable method for producing a cycloalkanol and a cycloalkanone by which a high degradation activity and a high selectivity for the objective substances are exhibited.

The method for producing the cycloalkanol and cycloalkanone is carried out as follows. A cycloalkyl hydroperoxide is subjected to a degradation reaction in the presence of a ruthenium catalyst represented by general formula (1) (wherein, L is a neutral ligand coordinating with a ruthenium atom; m and n are each an integer of 0-4; and m+n is an integer of 2-4).
