To produce a decorative sheet in which the outline of the pattern of a metal film is sharp even when a water insoluble coating material is applied in an increased thickness in order to prevent whitening caused by the corrosion of the metal film.

In a method for producing the decorative sheet, comprising successively laminating a water soluble pattern layer, a metal thin film layer and a protective layer on a base sheet and forming a partial metal thin film layer by peeling and removing the water soluble pattern layer and a portion of metal thin film layer by washing treatment, a position detection pattern is formed by using a portion of the water soluble pattern layer, and after masking so that the metal thin film layer is not formed on the position detection pattern or/and the peripheral part of the position detection pattern, the protective layer is formed on parts, where the water soluble pattern layer is not formed, on the metal thin film layer so that the outline of the protective layer overlaps with the outline of the water soluble pattern layer by detecting the position detection pattern.
