To provide a method for industrially producing an α,α-difluoroaromatic compound (where a CF2 group links directly to an aromatic ring) with good yield and at a low cost using a simple reactor and easy operation without a highly toxic catalyst, the α,α-difluoroaromatic compound not expected to be produced in a high yield.
A method for producing an α,α-difluoroaromatic compound includes a step for reacting ethenes substituted by a 1-chloro-1-aromatic ring with hydrogen fluoride using an aromatic or halogen-based reaction solvent. The ethenes substituted by a 1-chloro-1-aromatic ring and hydrogen fluoride to be used in the invention are available at a low price on a large scale. Reaction conditions are mild to give high selectivity and good yield. A high purity product can be obtained in an easy purification step. Further, the method uses a simple reactor and easy operation and does not require a highly toxic catalyst. The method is thus very useful for industrially producing the α,α-difluoroaromatic compound.
