To provide methods for producing a difluorobenzyl ether derivative useful as a liquid crystal material and a difluorobenzyl bromide derivative that is an intermediate for the above derivative with which the formation of by-products can be suppressed and both the derivatives can simply and efficiently be produced.

The method for producing the difluorobenzyl bromide derivative comprises a step of reacting a benzene derivative with a base and then reacting a mixture of dibromodifluoromethane with bromodifluoromethane. The method for producing the difluorobenzyl ether derivative comprises a step of reacting the difluorobenzyl bromide derivative with a phenol derivative.
