Abstract:
To provide a production method of epoxidized cellulose, which can perform epoxy group introduction to cellulose at lower temperatures and in shorter time.SOLUTION: A production method of epoxidized cellulose includes a step of reacting epihalohydrin and cellulose in an aqueous solution of an onium compound to generate epoxidized cellulose in which a hydroxyl group of the cellulose is glycidyl etherized. The onium compound may be a quaternary phosphonium compound. Furthermore, the onium compound may be an onium hydroxide. As the onium compound, a tetrabutylphosphonium hydroxide is preferable. The epoxidized cellulose is an epoxidized cellulose obtained by glycidyl etherizing the hydroxyl group of the cellulose, and a degree of epoxy substitution is 0.5 to 3.0.SELECTED DRAWING: None
