Title:
METHOD FOR PRODUCING ETHANOL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2009296983
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To provide a method for producing ethanol by efficiently converting, into ethanol, hexose and pentose contained in a saccharified liquid obtained by hydrolyzing lignocellulosic biomass.

The method for producing ethanol from lignocellulosic biomass by fermentation includes the following steps: A saccharified liquid is subjected to fermentation from hexose using a relevant yeast or bacterium, and while simultaneously feeding an inert gas, the ethanol is removed. Thereafter, a pentose-fermenting microorganism is used in the resultant fermented liquid after primary fermentation, without separating microbial cells from the fermented liquid, thus performing fermentation from pentose.
