This method for producing the ether tertiary amine represented by the general formula (3): R1-O-CH2CH2CH2-N(CH2R3)2-n-(CH2CH2CH2-O-R2)n (3) [R1 and R2 are each a 6 to 24C linear or branched saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon group; R3 is H or a 1 to 5C linear or branched alkyl; (n) is 0 or 1] comprises adding an aldehyde (R3CHO) to an ether primary amine or an ether secondary amine represented by the general formula (1): R1-O-CH2CH2 CH2-NH2-n-(CH2CH2CH2-O-R2)n (1) in the presence of a metal catalyst comprising an element selected from Pd, Pt, Rh, Re and Ru at a reaction temperature of 60 to 200°C and under a hydrogen pressure of ≥0.5 MPa (gauge pressure).
