Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer-based resin emulsion by which emulsion polymerization controllability is excellent and an environmental load is small because an aldehyde compound such as formaldehyde or acetaldehyde is scarcely or not contained in the emulsion at all with almost no malodor.
SOLUTION: This method for producing the ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer- based resin composition comprises carrying out emulsion polymerization of the ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer by using a vinyl alcohol-based polymer having ≥70 mol% degree of saponification as a dispersing agent. In the method, a redox-system polymerization initiator composed of hydrogen peroxide and at least one compound selected from tartaric acid, erythorbic acid, ascorbic acid and a metal salt thereof is used and an iron compound is added to carry out the emulsion polymerization. An inorganic reducing agent is then added after the emulsion polymerization.
