To provide a method for producing ethynylphthalic anhydride derivatives and ethynylphthalic acid derivatives, with a high purity and a high quality on an industrial scale, which derivatives are useful as functional materials such as medicines, agricultural intermediates, liquid crystals and electronic materials and especially for a terminal sealing material for functional polymers and oligomers.
The method for producing ethynylphthalic acid derivative represented by formula (4) comprises reacting a compound represented by general formula (2) with a compound represented by general formula (3), hydrolyzing the reaction product with a basic aqueous solution and extracting the hydrolysate from the aqueous layer of the reaction liquid with an organic solvent containing oxygen atom. The method for producing ethynylphthalic anhydride derivative represented by formula (1) comprises cyclizing the obtained compound represented by general formula (4). Wherein, in formulas, Q is a 1-12C alkyl group or the like which groups each may have a substituent group, and X1 is a halogen atom.
