To provide an efficient method for producing a fatty acid ester.
The method for producing a fatty acid ester by a transesterification reaction between a fat and oil material and an alcohol has a plurality of units 2, 3, 4 where a fatty acid ester-generation step (step A) and an anion exchanger-regeneration step (step B) are carried out. While the step A is carried out in at least one of the units 2, 3 and 4, the step B is carried out in at least one of the other units of 2, 3 and 4, so that the fatty acid ester is continuously generated by carrying out the step A and the step B alternately in each of the units 2, 3 and 4, where the step A comprises a process for bringing the fat and oil material and the alcohol into contact with the alcohol and the fatty acid ester and an anion exchanger insoluble in the fat and oil material, and the step B comprises a regeneration process for substituting a counter ion of the anion exchanger.
