To provide a fiber assembly further uniformized in properties over the range from its surface area to inside area.
This fiber assembly is produced by the following steps: a tow comprising two kinds (optionally, at least three kinds) of thermoplastic synthetic fibers differing in melting point from each other is cut, fed in an airborne fashion, and passed through a carding machine 41; then, the complicatedly entangled fibers are disaggregated, the respective directions of the fibers are arranged nearly parallel to each other and the fibers are processed into a sheet-like web 42 with stable basis weight; the web 42 is then brought into a hydrophilic treatment liquid 48 in a treatment thank 47 while being wound on rollers 43-46; at that time, the hydrophilic treatment liquid is held in the interstices of the fibers; subsequently, the resultant web 42 is bundled with a roller 50, thus producing a sliver 51.
