A method for producing a mixture of formula (I) Rf(CF2CF2)nI (wherein Rf is a 1-10C fluoroalkyl group, and n is the degree of polymerization) and is not less than m (m is not less than 2) by a telomerization reaction in the presence of a metal catalyst includes: (1) a process 1 of reacting a fluoroalkyl iodide of formula (II) RfI with tetrafluoroethylene in the presence of the metal catalyst to obtain a first reaction mixture; (2) a process 2 of separating the first reaction mixture into a first fraction of the degree of polymerization n not more than (m-2), a second fraction of the degree of polymerization n equal to (m-1), and a third fraction of the degree of polymerization n not less than m; and (3) a process 3 of reacting the second fraction with the tetrafluoroethylene in the presence of the metal catalyst to obtain a second reaction mixture of the degree of polymerization n not less than m.
