Abstract:

To provide a ligand that can trap the Vero toxin by changing the chemical structure of inexpensive trehalose.

Trehalose, a disaccharide from tow glucoses, is used as a starting substance and the hydroxy group in the 4-position in one glucose is inverted to the axial conformation to introduce the galactose structure whereby the galacto type trehalose or a derivative thereof is produced. The resultant galacto type trehalose or a derivative thereof is introduced into the main chain of a polymer to give the ligand for the Vero toxin.
